There are many principles, or beliefs that we can choose to guide our ministry and help us make decisions. But the list must be limited. After much consideration leadership team chose next principles.
We aim to please the Lord in whatever we do in youth ministry. Through relationships, services, interactions, games, activities, choir, etc.
“Try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord” – Ephesians 5:10
We seek to welcome one another, even though we are different. God welcomed us through Christ. It is out aim to create welcoming atmosphere, where people who visit or interact with us feel welcomed.
“Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God” – Romans 15:7
We value and are guided by the Word of God. We center the ministries around the Word of God and seek opportunities to proclaim it. We preach the Bible. We organize activities to study the Bible, and live according to what Bible teaches.
“How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.” – Psalm 119:9
We work hard and with our heart in the ministry. We aren’t careless, idle, or lazy. We want to do ministry with passion, intensity, as for the Lord. We want our youth to be passionate about the things of God.
“Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit” – Romans 12:11
We want to learn from those with more experience. We want to serve those with less. We want people of different ages to fit with us and feel welcomed. We build bridges with people of all ages.
“We will go with our young and our old… for we must hold a feast to the LORD “– Exodus 10:9
Youth ministry should benefit local church, because youth is part of the church. There are a lot of people in youth who are already part of the local church and they should not see themselves as part of youth only. They should see themselves serving greater purpose – to serve the church of God, who He bought with His own blood (Acts 20:28). We should be asking ourselves – how what we plan and do helps to build and strengthen the local church? Does it help people in youth to see value of the church? Does it help youth to want to be part of the local church? Does it help youth build character that will benefit the body of Christ?
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” – Hebrews 10:24-25
